Calderwood Hall Guest House

Calderwood Hall Guest House in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg KwaZulu-Natal.

Description

Our most popular accommodation is located within the Manor House itself. Each suite is exquisitely decorated with a different cultural theme. All the rooms in the Manor House are non smoking, have DSTV, feather duvets on the beds, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The Bridal Suite

The Bridal Suite is a spacious east-facing fairytale room, most suitable for a bridal couple. The huge romantic 4-poster bed is draped in white fabric giving it a whimsical feel. The large windows overlook the gardens and dam. Other comfortable pieces of furniture adorn this elegant en-suite room.

The Indian Suite

The Old Indian Colonial days are very apparent in this opulent suite. Draped with Indian wall hangings, elaborately carved screens and ancient artefacts, this en-suite room oozes Oriental charm.

The Victorian Suite

The large Victorian Suite is also east- facing, elegant and in keeping with the theme of the main house. Front facing with large sash windows, it overlooks the garden and dam. A huge king-sized 4-poster bed takes centre stage.

The Egyptian Suite

In the Egyptian suite, a large 4-poster bed adorns the middle of the room, which has an abundance of Egyptian artefacts, and an Egyptian wall hanging which gives the room an authentic feel.

The Chinese Suite

Ancient China beckons you to this luxurious suite with a large en-suite bathroom with a cast iron ball and claw bath and shower. Many pieces of furniture from China adorn this room and the whole atmosphere gives that feel of the east.

The Garden Suites

There are a further 21 garden suites which are ideal for families or conference groups. Five of the rooms are family suites and can hold 4/5 guests if required, the other rooms are twin-bedded. These are tastefully decorated in neutral earthy colours and overlook a large tranquil pasture (you may spot some dairy cows in the distance!) All the rooms have heaters and the beds have feather duvets for those chilly winters days.

Our quaint thatched Rondavel is situated along side the Manor House and is wheelchair friendly. The room has a distinctive ‘Out of Africa' feel. It boasts a double bed with a feather duvet and a full bathroom with a large shower.

Conference Venue

Calderwood Hall (a three star Guest House nestled in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg mountains in KwaZulu Natal) is perfect for that smaller, less formal business break away, strategic session or meeting. It’s a place that will encourage those creative juices to flow, a place where you will achieve the business objectives you set for your meeting, but it’s also a place that offers a little more. You’ll come away feeling that you did ‘get away to the country’ even if it was just for a little while!

Our conference venue opens up onto a beautiful tranquil garden which includes a water feature comprising of a large Koi Pond and fountain framed by a beautiful old willow tree. Manicured lawns surround the pond making it welcoming to delegates, encouraging them to enjoy the country feel that is Calderwood!

Businesses from Pietermaritzburg and the surrounds will enjoy a day conference at Calderwood Hall as it’s not too far for the delegates to travel, but it is just far enough away to ensure that complete break, so everyone focuses on those key issues as well as getting to know each other a little better!

For those looking to stay over, you’ll find this is a venue that draws everyone together, in the pub or around the pool. Being a little out of the way, definitely has its advantages.

The layout of Calderwood Hall does allow for break- away areas, for less formal discussions and brainstorming sessions. We find that delegates tend to make the place their own - and that’s the way we like it.

You’ll find our grounds are the perfect setting for any outdoor activities you may want to plan as part of your conference. We can host up to 100 delegates for a day conference, 70 sharing accommodation and 26 as singles. We can set out the conference venue according to your needs, whether its cinema style, schoolroom or U shape. The venue is air conditioned for your comfort.

For banqueting purposes (i.e. for function purposes) the venue can be set for up to 150 guests but not all guests would then be able to stay with us at Calderwood Hall.
